Despite a stronger offensive performance from North West Sydney Panthers in a replay of Game #5, the Sutherland Seahawks stretched their 2014 record to 7-0 after a 42-14 victory on saturday night.
The game start was delayed by over an hour waiting for the lights to come on at the field at Craik Park but it did not delay the ability of the Seahawk offence to find the end zone. Zac Nichols scored after just 2 offensive plays, and on the next offensive series QB Daniel Besz connected with Tight End/Running back Jackson Young for a 26 yard TD. Besz would score a rushing TD of his own from 50 yards out just before half time; Austen Peck’s fumble recovery setting up the mid field possession.
On the following Panthers possession back to back sacks from Khaled Alfas and Jackson Young who was filling in on the defense, led to an Alex Mellor interception, his third of the season. That turnover set up Haoping Tang’s 11 yard carry for a TD, and a 28-8 half time lead.
In the second half, Young added his 5th and 6th TD’s against the Panthers for the season, these two coming on the ground. The Panthers would gain 15 total first downs in the game but the Seahawk defence gave up just the 2nd rushing TD on the season. Blake Zumot’s interception iced the game and set the Seahawks up for an encounter next week against the Penrith Grizzlies.
