A season that started so promisingly with a successful charity bowl game int he preseason and 5-0 start finished with a very disappointly outing vs the Wollongong Mustangs; a loss that will round up the 2012 season.
The Mustangs were fresh off a bye week and played an unbeat tempo as usual, being in control of the game from the very beginning. The Seahawks could not mount any run defense and Mustangs were able to control the clock and dominate possession. The Seahawks would concede a club record in yardage on the ground.
Down 20-0 at the half, Mike Hall had his 11th TD run of the season from 35 yards out, after a countering TD by the Mustangs, Ned Stelzer had his 6th TD and 46th reception of the season to make the score 28-14 to the Mustangs in the 3rd quarter.
The defense just could not get off the field or force a turnover. The Mustangs ran out the remainder of the game in the fourth quarter and proceeded to the playoffs where they will meet the Sydney Uni Lions.
A 6-6 finish to the season is the best record since 2010 and second season over .500 since 2001. Sadly though it is another playoff miss for a second straight year. Injuries in 2012 particularly weakened the competitiveness. The week 12 starting defense had only 3 starters remaining from game 1 and 6 first year players; a difficult situation by any measure. The off season will determine much about the future of the club na dhow 2013 might shape up.
SEAHAWKS 14, MUSTANGS 50.
